There’s nothing better than a lazy Sunday afternoon spent with wonderful friends, and when there is something special to celebrate it's even better.

I was so blessed when I had my little boy, and even more so when he introduced me to some amazing new friends, that I now consider part of my family. Our little mothers group has definitely grown over the last 3 years - from new wary mums to now confident mums our group has gone from 12 to 17 + 2 on the way.

I always enjoy hosting parties and get togethers, and with Abbie and Jess due within a month of each other a joint Baby high tea was a definite must! (and of course a day with just the girls is always a bonus!)

The high tea was nice and simple, with a twist of vintage. Floral bunting was teamed with rustic timber boxes and pretty cake stands sat on top of a gorgeous lace table cloth. I’m always excited to combine vintage and rustic items, and love how they compliment each other.

Now the biggest question was, what do you get 2nd & 3rd time mums for presents. They already have newborn clothes coming out of their ears, and toys cluttering up every corner of their houses. So with Marysia’s help from baby.jpg photography, we gave Jess & Abbie Newborn photoshoot gift vouchers. Marysia is another wonderful mum we met through mothers group. Not only did she help us with the present she was also more than happy to come out and take some stunning photos of the afternoon.

To celebrate our little girl turning one, we decided on the beautiful theme - You are my Sunshine. During my whole pregnancy we were convinced we were having another boy. What a surprise we had, when we found out our little baby was a girl. She wore blue and was surrounded by blue for the first few months, so it felt right to have a not so traditional pink party for her birthday. Having said that, the You are my Sunshine theme is still very pretty, and feminine in its own way. Yellow and grey chevron are very on trend at the moment, and go perfectly with this theme. Add yellow, white and grey tissue paper pom poms to complete the look.

I got creative and made a yellow sun pinata. I just covered a soccerball pinata with yellow tissue paper. Easy! The party bags were a homemade cookie shaped like a sun, which I dare say were gratefully excepted by the parents.. too many lollies were already consumed! I found a cute little plain white singlet for Evie to wear, and jazzed it up with a cut out sun and cloud. Then ironed them on. I even surprised myself.

The whole day was wonderful, and the theme came together perfectly. By just having a few key items and sticking with 2 or 3 colours, it can create a lovely flowing theme and it doesn't have to cost a fortune.
